The Girls Varsity Soccer team started off strong after nearly a week since their last game. Some good combination play in the first minute resulted in the Eagles breaking down the FHE defense. Freshman Liv Brunink pressed the ball forward and played a pass into fellow Freshman, Kailynn Grieve to open the scoring just 1-minute into the match. FHE gradually worked their way back into the game creating some dangerous opportunities until they evened the score midway through the 1st half on a scramble in front of the Eagles’ goal.
The Eagles built momentum throughout the 2nd half following a point-blank save by Junior goalkeeper, Cami Rushlau. The final 15-minutes of the match saw the Eagles pressing forward, generating several corner kicks. With just 3-minutes remaining, Senior Anna Mucci served a corner kick in from the right side and found the head of Sophomore Becca Burroughs who knocked the ball in to the upper corner of the FHE net for the eventual game-winning goal.
The Eagles continued to show the heart and effort to play for the full 80-minutes and that effort was rewarded with their 6th win in the conference (6-1). It was a GRITty performance the require contributions from every player on the roster.
The Eagles finish a 4-game road swing on Friday evening at Northview (6:45 kick-off) before resuming conference play at home next week.
