The Girls Varsity Soccer team laced up their cleats Friday night for their third mach of the week and the 2nd against a top-10 opponent. The Eagles came into the game shorthanded with several players out of the lineup dealing with injury and the Huskies took little time to take advantage of the situation. Just 2 minutes into the match, the Huskies struck on a counter-attack down the left wing. The resilient Eagles settled into the game following this early goal and played tough throughout the remainder of the first half, going into the break trailing by a single goal.
The Eagles came out stronger in the 2nd half after making some adjustments and mounted several strong attacks at the Huskies goal that resulted in good scoring opportunities and corner kicks. The Eagles were playing their trademark gritty style when a controversial hand ball was called against an Eagle defender, resulting in a penalty kick for the Huskies who converted. The play continued to go back and forth with the Huskies taking advantage of space on the field left as the Eagles pressed to get back into the game, resulting in a final score of 4-0. The short-handed eagles gave a strong effort throughout the match and fought entire 80-minutes.
The Eagles return to conference play on Monday night against at rival East Grand Rapids (Mehney Field) on Monday at 6:45 pm.
