The Girls Varsity soccer team played confernece foe, Thornapple-Kellogg (TK) in the District Semifinals on Wednesday evening at Byron Center. The Eagles pressed relentlessly throughout the regulation, but were unable to break through the TK net despite a distinct advantage in shots. Entering overtime, both teams continued to push for a game-winning goal with the Eagles largely controlling the possession and TK counter-attacking with long balls. With 5 minutes remaining on the clock before resorting to penalty kicks, the Eagles earned a corner kick. Junior Elizabeth Williams served in a driven ball in front of the goal where Sophomore Becca Burrows was able to redirect it forcefully into the TK net to break the deadlock.
The Eagles closed out the final five minutes and created a few more chances before the final whistle blew. After 100-minutes of soccer, the Eagles Girls Varsity Soccer team earned a spot in the District Finals match on Friday evening.
The Eagles will resume their post-season on Friday evening at Byron Center West Middle School Athletic Complex at 6:00 pm. The Eagles will face OK Gold conference opponent, Wayland for the District championship.
