Grand Rapids Christian beat South Christian 51-41 for their first conference win of the season. From the starting tip the Eagles played with a lot of confidence and energy. Both teams struggled to score in the first quarter but the Eagles were able to keep the lead and end the quarter ahead 9-5.
The second quarter is where the Ealges really showed what they were capable of. They pushed the ball on offense, did a great job handling pressure that South put on them in the full court, and played great defense holding South to 7 points. GRC outscored South Christian 21-7 in the 2nd quarter and went into half-time ahead 30-12. Evie Doezema had 12 points in the quarter and Emma Witte had 8.
The second half South did a great job coming out and switchings up on defense which kept the Eagles off balance on force them into a lot of turnovers. The Eagles were able to maintain composure and get stops on defense which lead to a 51-41 victory.
Micaela Jones did a great job of getting big stops on defense in transition as well as making great decisions with the ball to control the tempo. Haily McBride did a great job defensively trying to keep South from getting comfortable. Evie Doezema finished the game with 18 points, Emma Witte had 15, Rory Pruis had 8 and MIcaela Jones had 6.
The Eagles play next week Friday against Thornapple Kellogg.
