Michigan Boys Volleyball’s post-season regional tournament began with all twelve teams seeded based on conference records. Although finishing the regular season tied for first in the Metro conference, the Eagles entered the regional tournament seeded #2 to conference co-champion Kalamazoo Christian based on head-to-head record. The top two teams from both conferences received a bye in the first round. As such, the Eagles’ first match was round two in which they placed Mona Shores, coming off a win over Bath in round 1.

The Eagles’ roster was back at full strength, following a mid-season injury, and they settled into this new lineup quickly. The Eagles began the match with confidence, handling serve receive and free balls with skill, setting up their offense to close out points quickly. Numerous Eagles went on serving binges throughout the match, including freshman setter Sam Seven, sophomore outside hitter Irvin “Bear” Burt, junior right side hitter Jordan Bergsma and junior outside hitter/ setter Evan May.

The Eagles consistent defense, lead by freshman defensive specialist/ right side hitter Tanner Warners and sophomore defensive specialist Joe DeVries, converted smoothly into a punishing offense lead by sophomore setter Jordan Vanderkamp, assisting on crushing kills by May. Adding to the offensive attack were Burt and Bergsma, keeping Mona Shores defense unsure of where to focus their efforts.

The Eagles sailed past Mona Shores with a decisive three set victory (25-17, 25-19, 25-20), advancing to the Regional Semi-finals where they will face Lakeshore Conference champion West Ottawa. The semis are scheduled for this Thursday night at 5:30 at home, with the Regional Finals taking place afterward at 7:00. Plan to attend Thursday night to cheer on your Eagles for a true, home court advantage.
