The Eagles traveled to NorthPointe Christian on Thursday for their third away match this week. The army of blue overwhelmed the Mustangs sweeping all 4 scoring matches in the first round. Flights 2-4 easily won their matches. #2 Brad VanWienen/Charlie Walters 6-2, #3 Devin Meeuwsen/Owen Greer 6-0 and #4 Lucas Oezer/Jordan Bergsma 6-0. Flight #1 Mark Haga and Mark Morrison battled to the end, fighting off match points eventually winning in a close set 7-5.
The Eagles picked up the remaining points by default as the NorthPointe team was only able to play 4 flights. However, the story doesn’t end there. The depth of the Eagles team was on display in the 2nd round matches as flights 10-13 for the Eagles took the courts to face again the #1-4 doubles of the Mustangs.
Chase Jackson and Ethan Brandt faced the Mustangs #1 fighting hard to the very end. In a close set until the very end they managed to win 4 games eventually losing 6-4. Christian VandenBerg and Brevin Ganzevoort also fought hard against the #2 of NorthPointe but struggled on the scoreboard losing 1-6. However #5 Gordon VerMeulen and Preston Lewis were able to pull off a 6-3 victory against the same team.
The dynamic duo of Jimmy Doles and Joel VanHekken faced the #3 team looking like they too would upset their much taller opponents but eventually lost their set 4-6. Gavin Sosnowski and Ethan DeBlecourt faced #4. Great points and a close match but were unable to come away with the victory losing 4-6.
