The Eagles played against 3 quality opponents on Saturday at the Zeeland East Invitational. They won 15 out of 18 matches with some of the most high quality tennis all season.
Cade Boender and Derek Jacobsen swept all 3 of their matches at 6 doubles only losing 10 games combined in all of their matches. Matt Molenhouse and Brevin Ganzevoort played solid tennis at 5 doubles winning 2 of 3 matches for the day. Their final match on the day was close to the very end where they lost 10-12 in the 3rd set tiebreaker. At #4 Lucas Oezer and Jordan Bergsma swept all matches in their flight. They played aggressive, smart tennis and didn’t drop 1 set.
The third flight claimed 2 of their 3 matches. First Owen Greer and Devon Meeuwsen won their first match against Zeeland East 6-0,6-1. An adjustment was made to the lineup for the remaining 2 matches where Owen Greer and Dan Betten won 1 of 2 matches at #3. The final match again Catholic Central Cougars was close and lost in a 3rd set tie break. #2 Charlie Walters and Devon Meeuwsen finished strong with 2 solid matches full of exciting net play and athleticism dropping only 5 games.
#1 Doubles Mark Haga and Drew Hoeksema faced the toughest opponents all day but swept their flight winning all 3 matches without dropping a set. Plenty of overhead smashes and long rallies full of patient and smart tennis made it the best tennis we’ve seen all season.
