The Eagles proved that sometimes a team should be careful what it wishes for. After a 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Eagles on their home turf, the #7 Ranked Petoskey Northmen lobbied the Allegan Tournament Director for a rematch. The Eagles left no doubt, handing the Northmen a bagel with a 8-0 win. Displaying impressive mental toughness, the Eagles maintained their composure in some very heated matches.
Ranked #5 in D3, the Eagles followed up the 8-0 win over Petoskey with a 8-0 defeat of Division 1 #8 Ranked Holt. The match of the day was Marcus Haveman. Losing the first set 6-1, Haveman rallied for a 7-6 comeback in a set lasting over an hour before finishing off his flustered opponent in the third set tiebreak 10-6. Freshman Simon Volkema, Senior Co-Captain Tyler Stafford, and Sophomore Alex Lowell won solid matches at #1, #2, and #4 Singles, respectively.
Finally, with short rest on the long day, the Eagles had to play #9 Ranked St. Clair. St. Clair is very strong in their top 3 singles flights, and the Eagles had to rely on their Doubles Flights to carry the day. Seniors Josh Jacobsen/Caleb Betten, Senior Jack Zwiers and Sophomore Grant Moorhead, Senior James VanHekken and Freshman Tanner Warners, and Senior Sawyer Masselink and Eli Kuiper at #1-4 Doubles swept, and Sophomore Alex Lowell finished off the Saints for a 5-3 victory.
The Eagles are playing well heading into the Conference Tournament this weekend hosted by South Christian.
