Game Recap The Eagles are this season's OK White conference co-champions after a convincing 72-50 win at Lowell on Friday night. Christian finished at 9-1 in conference play to share the 2013 title with Forest Hills Central.

The final win of the regular season was closer than the final score would indicate as Christian led just 31-24 at halftime. But a solid third quarter, behind numerous steals and layups, put the game out of reach as all 12 Eagles got a chance to play in the conference-clinching W.

Christian had two 20-point scorers, Tyra Smith and Kortney Deurloo, and Paris Madison added 17 as the three starters combined for 57 points. Smith also added 8 steals and 4 assists, while Haley Muller led the way on the boards with 9 rebounds.

Eagles News · Eagle Sports Report 2/20/13

“The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.” – Longfellow

For a student-athlete to maintain excellence in the classroom requires many late nights of studying.  Two notable pieces of news:  Seven of our XC runners were named Academic All-State.  Julia Bos, Matt Plantinga, Jim VanDyke, Rachel Warners, Lindsey Fox, Melanie Fox, and Carlie Penning each received this honor that requires a finish in the top half at State Finals AND a 3.5 GPA or better.  Also, after a demanding season playing for the Central Michigan football team, GRCHS Alum Kavon Frazier was named this week to the CMU Dean’s List – also requiring a 3.5 GPA or better.  Great work!

Boys Basketball

The Eagles took early command of the game against Forest Hills Central and retained the lead all the way to their 69-47 victory.  Drake Harris, Dwayne Barfield, and DeLeon Brown combined for 35 points. Wuoi Mach came through with 12 points. After sitting out a game along with 3 others, Harris showed his usual class when questioned by an eager press by telling them that it was a good lesson learned for everyone and that they were happy to be back on the court.  Coach Majerle and the Eagles look forward to Lowell on Friday where a win would clinch the conference title.

Girls Basketball

The Eagles lost to FHC 48-33, dropping to 8-1 in conference play and tied for first with FHC.  A slow start spelled trouble for the Eagles as they trailed 33-22 at halftime.  After struggling against a strong defense throughout the night, the scoring ended with Jesse Bultsma and Tyra Smith leading with 7 apiece and Paris Madison, Kortney Deurloo, and Haley Muller each with 6.

Bowling

The Eagle boys lost to Northview. Rob Oostindie had the high game for the team with a 219. The girls lost to Northview. Jessica Carroll had the high game for the Eagles with a 177.

Game Recap The Eagles saw their unbeaten streak in OK White play come to a halt at Forest Hills Central on Tuesday evening as they fell 48-33 to the homestanding Rangers to drop to 8-1 in conference play, tied for first with FHC. Christian will travel to Lowell on Friday night with a chance to clinch at least a share of the 2013 conference title.

A slow start against FHC spelled trouble for GR Christian as it trailed 20-10 after the first quarter and 33-22 at halftime. The Eagles also struggled from the floor, hitting just 12-of-52 field goal attempts for 23 percent shooting. No Eagles hit double figures for Christian with Jesse Bultsma and Tyra Smith scoring 7 apiece and Paris Madison, Kortney Deurloo and Haley Muller adding 6 each.
