Game #1

In the first of a back to back series, Christian met up with Petoskey Lakers at Spring Lake. In a running clock format, the Lakers got off to lead 5 to 2 at halftime. They added 2 to make it 7 to 2 before the Eagles went on a run of 4 goals to bring it within 1. Christian took risks in an attempt to tie the game up, but were foiled as Petoskey caused an untimely turnover and converted to earn their victory. The leading scorer was Connor Konynenbelt with 3 goals and Ryan Betts with 2.

Game #2

The Eagles met up with Traverse City Central to find surprisingly decent weather on a grass field.  In the second of two games and a year after giving the Thunder Squirrels their first loss in four years the Eagles were not playing their best lacrosse. Trailing at halftime 1 to 2 and eventually 1 to 5 in the second half, they made a nice run to bring it within a goal, but the risks taken to try to tie the game in the last minute ended up costing another goal as the final score was 5 to 7.The Eagle’s leading scorer was Ty Hayes with 2 goals, while Chad Teitsma and Ryan Betts each had 1 goal and 1 assist.

The Eagles lost to Catholic Central.  Eagle goals were scored by Allison Greeley (2) and Margaret Hosack.  Goalie Lydia Abma had 8 saves.

Game Recap (correction to the previous report, we played Petoskey first and TC Central second)

In the first of a back to back series Christian met up with the Petoskey Lakers in Spring Lake for a re-match of what had been a close game last year in favor of the Eagles. In a running clock format, the Lakers got off to a quick start tossing in their first goal just 13 seconds into the game and rung up 4 more to lead 5 to 2 at halftime. They tossed in the next 2 goals to lead 7 to 2 before the Eagles went on an exciting run of 4 goals to bring it within 1 goal. Again with the ball with under a minute, Christian took risks in an attempt to tie the game up, but were foiled as Petoskey caused an untimely turnover and converted to earn their victory.

Petoskey took more shots 25-20 and captured more face-offs 7-5, while Christian scooped more ground balls 23-17 and made more saves 6-5. The leading scorer was Connor Konynenbelt with 3 goals and Ryan Betts added 2 goals.

Game Recap On a day when it was snowing in Traverse City, where the game was scheduled to be played, the Christian lacrosse team met up with TC Central in Spring Lake to find surprisingly decent weather on a grass field that took this week's rain reasonably well. In the first of two games and a year after giving the Thunder Squirrels their first loss in four years the Eagles were not playing their best lacrosse. Trailing at halftime 1 to 2 and eventually 1 to 5 in the second half, they made a nice run to bring it within a goal, but the risks taken to try to tie the game in the last minute ended up costing another goal as the final score was 5 to 7.

Christian outshot TCC 29-14, scooped up more ground balls 29-20, won more face-offs 7-5, but trailed in saves 4-13. The Eagle's leading scorer was junior Ty Hayes with 2 goals, while seniors Chad Teitsma and Ryan Betts each had 1 goal and 1 assist.

Boys Lacrosse

Varsity

In a very rainy game, the Eagles slugged through the mud for a big 9 to 5 win in their first OK conference game of the season. The host team from Lowell may have hoped playing in these conditions would have slowed the Christian team down, but instead they raced out to a 7 to 3 halftime lead behind a feisty attack unit of Ryan Betts, Connor Konynenbelt, and Ty Hayes. Ground balls were much higher than average with the Eagles winning the overall battle 52 to 29 thanks to great hustle from the whole team.  Tyler Romero and Chad Teitsma combined to win the face-off mud bowl by a count of 11 to 7. Teitsma was the only midfielder to score a goal as the attackmen tossed in the other 8. Betts led with 4 goals, Konynenbelt tied in points with 2 goals and 2 assists, and Ty Hayes fought for his 2 goals.
The Christian defensive limited the Red Arrow offense to just one goal in 3 of the quarters, while allowing just 2 goals in the 2nd quarter. Jack Tellier manned the goal and saved 7 times with 4 saves in the critical 3rd quarter when Lowell eagerly attempted to make a comeback.

JV

Last night the Eagles fell to the Lowell Arrows in a hard fought and muddy game. The Eagles started the game off well against Lowell leading the first quarter 1-0 off a quick stick goal by Jared Duthler. From there, the tides turned when Lowell scored 8 unanswered in the second quarter. From that point on the Eagles could not catch up. Also scoring for the Eagles was Jonah Craker.
