At the OK Greater Grand Rapids Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday, the Eagles scored a total of 283.5 points giving them 3rd place finish. To start off finals on Saturday, the 200 Medley Relay team of Claire Sytsma, Anna Haaksma, Mary Grace Doyle and Claire Zwiers finished in 4th with a time of 1:51.87, the fastest time recorded this season. In the 200 Freestyle, freshman Becca Burrows touched in 1st place at 1:54.12, setting a new meet record, followed by Mary Grace Doyle in 8th place with a 2:06.87 and Claire Sytsma in 16th at 2:08.88. In the 200 IM, the Eagles took home a 5th place finish from junior Anna Haaksma at 2:12.87. Seniors Claire Zwiers and Erica Stinton both were in the top heat of the 50 Freestyle touching at 3rd (25.01, Zwiers) and 5th (25.37, Stinton) and junior Ellie Meyer touched in 13th with a time of 25.79.
On the boards, freshman Erin Sytsma finished in 24th place with a season-best score of 246.20. In the 100 Butterfly, sophomore Lucy Swedberg touched in 16th place at 1:13.17, Mary Grace Doyle touched in 6th at 1:01.54 and Becca Burrows touched in 5th at 1:01.37. Zwiers and Stinton took 4th (Zwiers, 54.78) and 6th (Stinton, 55.39) in the 100 Freestyle, followed by junior Ellie Meyer in 11th at 56.38. In the 500 Freestyle, junior Tatiana Hogeterp took 12th overall with a time of 5:41.38.
In the 200 Freestyle Relay, the team of Erica Stinton, Anna Haaksma, Becca Burrows and Claire Zwiers made school history by touching at 1:39.89, breaking a school record of 1:40.00 set in 2004.
In the final events of the meet, Claire Sytsma and Kate Klaver touched in 9th (Sytsma, 1:03.06) and 12th (Klaver, 1:05.02) in the 100 Backstroke and Zoe Turner, Hannah Feng and Anna Haaksma competed in the 100 Breaststroke touching 15th (Turner, 1:14.60), 8th (Feng, 1:12.61) and 3rd (Haaksma, 1:08.96.) The Eagle team of Stinton, Doyle, Meyer and Burrows capped off the meet by touching in 4th in the 400 Freestyle relay with a time of 3:43.22.
The Eagles’ final competition of the season will be the MHSAA Division 3 State Championships held at Eastern Michigan University on November 17 & 18.
