East Grand Rapids High School
Grand Rapids Christian High School
The Eagles completed a sweep of East Grand Rapids on a windswept day at Gainey with a workman-like 9-0 win over the visiting Pioneers. Christian is now 10-0-1 in conference play and 15-5-1 overall. For the Eagles, pitcher Kyle Tubbs was lights-out as he faced the minimum 18 batters in six innings pitched and recorded 11 strikeouts, while allowing just one hit. East had two baserunners during those six innings, but both were erased on the base paths. One Pioneer reached in the first via an error but was cut down trying to steal third by catcher Lee de Haan. Another Pioneer reached in the sixth on a bloop single and then was promptly picked off by Tubbs. At the plate the Eagles were a solid 9-for-25 with outfielder Cade Stransky doing major damage, going 2-for-3 with five RBI as he had a single and a double with the bases loaded. Center fielder Carson Warners was 3-for-3 with three steals, Tubbs was 2-for-4 and second baseman Andre Baez and first baseman Luke Elzinga added a hit apiece. The jayvee Eagles close out their season next week with three against Wyoming, including a Tuesday twinbill at historic Lamar Park and a single set on Thursday at Gainey.
