The Eagles’ had an excellent fourth place finish in the OK Greater Grand Rapids Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Eagles took home several season-best times across the board and had many outstanding performances to finish off their regular season. In the pool, the Eagles’ 200 medley relay team of Sytsma, Haaksma, Oezer and Zwiers started off the meet by taking 5th place overall, followed by a 5th place finish from Anna Haaksma in the 200IM (2:16.91). This was followed by the 50 freestyle with four Eagles placing in the top 16. (Zwiers, 16th, A. Raterink, 12th, Stinton, 8th and Oezer 7th). Immediately following, senior Ashten Busscher had an outstanding, All-American performance in one-meter diving, placing 6th overall and breaking a 21-year old school record of 389.25. Following the diving competition, the Eagles’ had several more top performances including top finishes in the 100 butterfly (Zwiers, 11th, Oezer 5th), the 100 free (Meyer, 16th, Stinton, 6th), the 500 freestyle (Doyle, 12th, Elzinga 7th) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Stinton, Zwiers Haaksma and Oezer took home a second place finish with a season-best time of 1:42.18. Closing the meet, the Eagles’ took home a 12th place finish from Sytsma in the 100 backstroke and a 5th place from Haaksma in the 100 breaststroke. The Eagles’ finished the meet with a 5th place finish from the 400 freestyle relay team of Stinton, Elzinga, Doyle and Schellenboom with a time of 3:48.38. The Eagles will now continue on to the MHSAA Division III State Championships slated to take place at Holland Aquatics Center on November 17-19. Diving competition will continue first to the Regional Diving competition to take place on Thursday, November 10 at East Grand Rapids High School.
