On Friday the Eagles Varsity Tennis Team’s season came to an end, finishing 4th at a very competitive Regional featuring 5 of the State’s 10 best Division 3 teams. The team finished with 14 points, 4 short of the necessary 18 to qualify.
The teams of Andrew McClurg/Daniel Lee at #1 Doubles and Marcus Haveman/Tyler Stafford at #2 Doubles reached the finals before falling to egr.
Jackson Schierbeek at #1 Singles, Ryan Jacobsen at #2 Singles and the teams of Caleb Betten/Josh Jacobsen at #3 Doubles and Jack Zwiers/Garrit Harkema at #4 Doubles all reached the semifinals.
Jackson Doezema at #3 Singles and Sawyer Masselink at #4 singles played tough opponents first round and did not advance but played some of the best tennis of their seasons.
The team will graduate two seniors: four year Varsity starter Andrew McClurg, and 2 year letterman Ryan Jacobsen. McClurg had a stellar run at #1 Doubles the past two seasons and his highlights include Conference and Regional titles and a State semi-final run. Jacobsen, or “Ry Guy” as he is known, played the tough #2 singles spot with tenacity and is one of the hardest workers on the team during the season. Both seniors will be very missed.
