The OK-GOLD Tennis Tournament finished Monday with late final results not in yet, the Eagles Tennis Team finished 3rd overall in the Conference behind East Grand Rapids and Forest Hills Eastern. The Eagles try to earn a trip to the State Finals this Friday as GRC hosts the Regional at Gainey! Come out and support the Eagles!
Jackson Schierbeek, the Eagles #1 Singles player, finished runner-up to EGR. As the second best player in the Conference, Schierbeek earned All-Conference honors and defeated South Christian in the semi-finals. At #1 Singles, Schierbeek plays the best player from every school in every single match and has a winning record this season. Heading into Regionals he is the #3 seed behind Holland Christian and East Grand Rapids.
Senior Andrew McClurg and Junior Daniel Lee also reached the finals before falling to East Grand Rapids. McClurg/Lee also earned All-Conference honors and defeated FHE in the semi-finals. McClurg caps a two-year run as an All-Conference athlete. McClurg and Lee are the #2 seed heading into the Regional tournament Friday.
Sophomores Marcus Haveman and Tyler Stafford also reached the finals, falling to EGR. The pair have one of the best records on the team and are seeded #2 going into the Regional Tournament.
Senior Ryan Jacobsen and the pairs of Caleb Betten/Josh Jacobsen and Jack Zwiers/Garrit Harkema all finished 3rd place in the tournament. Sophomores Jackson Doezema and Sawyer Masselink faced tough draws and look to bounce back at the Regional Tournament Friday.
This Friday GRC hosts the Regional Tournament at Gainey. The tournament will run all day with the biggest matches coming in the afternoon. Come out and support the Eagles!
