Did you know?

Kavon Frazier (’12) was named a Detroit Free Press “Fab 50” player when he played football here at Christian High.  He is now a freshman defensive back on the Central Michigan Chippewa football team.  Last week he recorded his first set of stats with a 5 tackles on the Michigan State Spartans – a great start to a promising college career.

Girls Golf

The JV team lost a well-contested match to East Grand Rapids on a sunny, yet cool, fall day at The Mines.  Our top 4 players beat their opponents by a total of 3 strokes, but EGR’s #6 player played the round of her life and counted to defeat us as a team 229-238.  Laura Mulder was team medalist with a 55, Kate Poortenga shot 47, Caroline Heule posted a 62 and Kara DeBoer shot 64 to round out the team scoring.  The team showed great improvement in several areas – nice job!

Boys Soccer

The Eagles fought back from a 2-0 deficit to even the score at the half.  First half goals were scored by Jacob Witte off a set piece from Dylan Weldy, and Reitsma Mpindi from an Adam Warners assist.  The second half was controlled by Jenison who scored 4 goals.  Brian Holwerda cut the lead to 4-3 before 2 late goals by Jenison.  Curtis VanWienen had 3 saves for the Eagles while Zach VanderKamp recorded 6 saves.

The JV team came up just short last night, losing 2-1 against Jenison.  Schuyler Pruis scored the lone goal for the Eagles.

The Eagles are now 2-1 in conference play after beating the Jenison Wildcats 3-0.  Kelly Bos led the offense with 16 kills, Taylor Gates had 31 assists, and Audrey Mustert had 2 aces.  The defense was led by Sam McLean with 12 digs.

The JV team continued their winning streak last night conquering Jenison 2-0, remaining undefeated in the conference.  Stat leaders were Annika Zandee (31 target passes), Jessa VanderWeide (14 assists), Dylynn Otte (2 blocks), Ellen Long (9 kills), and Carlyn Schipper (5 aces).  Great job!

Girls Swim/Dive

The Eagles had a great home opener with a victory over Mona Shores.  Strong performances across the board included new girls competing in the 200 freestyle.  Winners included all 3 relays, Elena Groenenboom in diving, Burrows in the 200 free and 500 free, VanHarn in the 50 free and 100 free, Cole in the 100 back, and Pruiksma in the 100 breast.  Hannah Burrows made a state cut in the 500 while Jenna Swets and Sam Stevens had notable performances as well.
