Kris Koster is known to every Christian High Cross Country and Track & Field Athlete as a coach with boundless energy who goes stride for stride with them as they run. Kris was recently given the honor of Michigan Runner magazine’s Runner of the Year 2011. In the MR Series, Kris scored 100 points to tie with Boaz Cheboiywo in the open men’s category. Kris, age 30 and newly married, had a great year – winning the Meijer Cherry Festival 15K (9.3 miles) with a time of 48.55. In the Crim 10-mile, a race with over 9,000 runners, Kris finished 4th among Michigan men. He had the amazing time of 14:44 in the Irish Jig 5K and had his best finishes in a number of other races. Michigan Runner noted that Kris was a “late bloomer” – finishing 167th in State as a Junior here at Christian High and 86th as a Senior. However, he went on to be a 3-time Division III All-American at Calvin College. We are privileged to have Kris, with his contagious smile, working with our athletes as a dedicated coach and as a model of Christian character.
