I went to Grand Rapids Christian High School and graduated in 2005. I was on the equestrian team all four years. I then went to Calvin College and majored in Elementary Education, and I now work at Rockford Christian School.
2. What made you decide to go into coaching high school athletics?
I was asked four years ago to coach the team, and I just love it! It is great to share the passion of horses with students and guide to them to become better riders.
3. What do you feel is the most rewarding part of being a coach, particularly in a high school setting?
The most rewarding thing about being the coach of the equestrian team is seeing the bond between the horse and the rider. Equestrian is a very interesting sport because you are not only in charge of your own body, but also a 1,200 pound animal that has a mind of its own.
4. What advice can you give to young athletes that are coming up the system who are interested in your specific sport?
I encourage young riders to participate in the GRCS Middle School Equestrian team that happens in the spring. Also, riders need to participate in at least two horse shows before each season.
5. What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Tell me about yourself and your family situation and how long you have been a part of Grand Rapids Christian.
I enjoy spending time with my husband, Matt, and dog, Wilson. I also have my own horse, Kali, that I compete in shows with. I enjoy traveling, the beach, and reading.
Thanks to Anna for her hard work so far this season and we wish the best for her and her team as the season continues.
