2016 Academic All State athletes

In December, we honored 15 varsity teams and over 224 varsity athletes for earning recognition as an academic All-State athlete in 2016.

Each sport has a coaches association in charge of academic all state, and each sport has different standards for team Academic All-State and each sport has different standards for earning individual Academic All-State.

2015-2016 Winter Sports  

Competitive Cheer:  The team earned a 3.47 team GPA. Individually, an athlete needed to earn a 3.8 GPA to receive individual honors. Athletes receiving individual honors were, Ashten Busscher, Suha Chung, Emily DeKoster, Kaitlyn Greenfield, Julia Kessel, Isabella Parolini. Amanda Raterink, Sydney Sigler and Miriam VanHarn

Hockey:  The team GPA was 3.31 team.  Individual honors go to Cory Holden.
Boys and Girls Skiing earned Academic All State as a team- the boys had a 3.65 GPA and the girls a 3.85.  The following students also earned individual honors: Camilla Bjelland, Sean Cawley, Andrew Gortsema, Austen Krause, Astrid LeRoy, Jim Muir, Luc Selles and Ally VanHekken.

Boys Swim and Dive earned Academic All State as a team with a 3.53 GPA.

2016 Spring Sports

Girls Lacrosse:  The team GPA was 3.8. Fourteen athletes earned individual honors as a 3.6 or higher… Abi Bouman, Charli Bouwma, Brooke Christians, Taya DeGraaf, Lauren Eekhoff, Anna Haveman, Ellen Hilbrands, Samantha Koeman, Alee Lamica, Sydney Muller, Sophia Parolini, Olivia Peterson, Jamie Van de Burg and Hannah Wright.

Girls Soccer:  19 athletes on the team earned a 3.826 team GPA. Individual honors were awarded to Maria Bolt, Casandra Bosworth, Lauren May, Emily Mindling, Megan Noordewier and Danielle Toren.

Girls Tennis earned a team GPA of 3.75. The girls tennis coaches association does not award individual academic all state.

Track and Field only awards individual academic all state. Justin Varineau is our sole representative for our boys and girls track and field programs.

2016 Fall Sports

Cross Country:  The Cross country coaches association only awards one team in the entire state. Our girls and boys both won 1st place Academic All State, a first for both programs! The girls had a 3.997 GPA and the boys had a 3.95 GPA. Individual Academic All State honors in Cross Country go to Camilla Bjelland, Aaron Brinks, Sadie Heeringa, Abby Jonker, Charlie Kornoelje, Lydia Michelle, Tyler Poel, Maria Poortenga, Sarah VanDyke, Ryan VanOrman and Justin Varineau.

Girls Golf:  The team had an average cumulative GPA of 3.876.

Boys Soccer:  The team needed at 3.4 team GPA, and earned a 3.61 GPA. Individual honors go to Alex Bergsma, Dylan DeVries, Jacob Elzinga, Filmon Gebreytsadik, Daniel Guarizo, Samuel Hofman, Benjamin Jonker, John Philippe Medawar, Christopher Schau, Adam Stacey, Alec VanderLugt, Caleb Vandervelde, Jack Visser, Thomas Visser, Paul Welch, and Jonah Witte.

Girls Swim and Dive:  The team had an average accumulative GPA of 3.85. Individual honors go to Ashten Busscher, Brooke Elzinga, Jenna Oezer, Amanda Raterink. And Alexis Suwyn.

Boys Tennis:  The Boys tennis team had a 3.68 accumulative GPA. The boys tennis coaches association does not award individual academic all-state honors.

Volleyball: The team needed to average a 3.66 team GPA to earn All-State honors. Our team had an average accumulative GPA of 3.71 to earn academic all state honors. Individual Academic All-State was earned by Aubrie Cok, Alyssa VanWienan and Hannah Warners.
