It was college decision day for Xavier Tillman. The Grand Rapids Christian High School senior, made the following announcement at his press conference today (Friday, September 30).
Thank you everyone for coming. This is definitely the most important decision I’ve ever had to make in my 17 years of life. It was a hard decision because I had great schools and great coaches in my top 3. I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity. I also want to thank my family for supporting me throughout my basketball career.
Purdue: Coach Painter and Coach Brantley have been recruiting me since the end of my freshmen year and were the first Big 10 School to offer me a scholarship. Purdue is ranked in the top 10 nationally and lead the NCAA in paint touches last year so they get the ball into the post. Of course that’s very appealing because of the position I play. I expect to evolve and turn into a versatile face up big. I truthfully and honestly appreciate all the hard work and effort both coaches have given me.
Marquette: Without a doubt Coach Wojo and Johnson have been most consistent since they started recruiting me. They truthfully believe in me and shared a very clear written blueprint of what they thought my career might look like as the face of the program at Marquette. It is a small school in a great city that plays in the Big East conference that includes last year’s national champion.
Michigan State: The reason that I’m not choosing Marquette or Purdue is because I have a DREAM and that DREAM is to be a Michigan State Spartan. I chose the Spartans because I feel that it is the best fit to achieve my goals of becoming a successful student athlete in a GREAT basketball program. The idea of being a part of their program literally gave me the chills. I could definitely see myself playing there and I’ve been on the campus so many times I feel like I know everything about it.
The coaches (Izzo, Stephens, Garland, and Fifie) and the players had a huge impact on my decision. Coach Izzo is a hall of fame coach and knows how to develop players who desire to reach the NBA if they’re willing to put in the work. I’ve been told I’m a workhorse so that made it an even easier choice.
“With regard to the team I really gelled with them especially Tum Tum. He is a guy I honestly look up too and somebody I am very proud of.
Thank you, guys!
