Eagle Soccer Upsets FHN!!!

Last night at Eagles Stadium, the boy’s on the Varsity Soccer Team were faced with their biggest challenge of the season and rose to the occasion.  The 17-3-1 Northern Huskies came with a raucous crowd and planned on walking out of the Stadium with a victory.  The Eagles had other thoughts, however.  Senior Captain Taylor Pruis put in a goal with less than 7 minutes remaining in the game to give the Eagles the 2-1 victory.  The Huskies came into the game ranked 5th in DII but it was the Eagles who came out of the gates and took the early lead on the foot of David Plyumert in the 11th minute of the first half.  With under 10 minutes to go in the game the Huskies tied the game on a penalty kick which sent the crowd from Forest Hills Northern into a frenzy.  The Eagles didn’t let the crowd faze them.  Just 22 seconds later Pruis put in the winning goal off a throw in from Joel Schipper to make it a 2-1 game with just under 7 minutes to go in the game and the rest was history.  “These guys are an amazing group,” GR Christian coach Larry Klaasen said. “We started out the season slowly with a lot of tough losses, but they just want to win. Northern is a great team that possesses the ball well and has skilled kids, but Connor (Colburn) was tough in the net and we hung in there.”  With the win, the Eagles have now won 9 in a row and move on to face Spring Lake, who beat Dewitt 2-0 in the early evening game at Eagles Stadium.  The game will once again have the Eagles playing in their home stadium and will take place on Saturday at 2pm.
