Head Coach Bio: Doug Jager, Cross Country

Head Coach Doug Jager

1. Where did you attend high school and college and what did you major in?

I attended Kalamazoo Christian and then 2 years at Calvin College.

2. What made you decide to go into coaching high school athletics?

I enjoyed cross country so much, I decided I wanted to coach it if given the opportunity.

3. What do you feel is the most rewarding part of being a coach, particularly in a high school setting?

The most rewarding part of coaching is building relationships with the kids.

4. What advice can you give to young athletes that are coming up the system who are interested in your specific sport?

Build slowly, and hang in there when it gets tough; it will come over time. One of our eagle laws is: “Hard work given time beats talent”.

5. What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Tell me about yourself and your family situation and how long you have been a part of Grand Rapids Christian?

I enjoy many sports, although my knees give me some problems. I play softball 2 days a week all summer and bike 5 days a week. We have three children all daughters, the youngest two are still at GRCHS as a 12th grader and 10th grader. I’m in my 21st season as head cross country coach, but I also coach track and field.

Thanks to Coach Jager for his time and hard work with Eagle Cross Country.
